Devlog V3 Update
Super Tile Land » Devlog
The levels are pretty much still the same, but I've done some major work to the feel of the game. Aside from a more relevant thumbnail, here is what's new.
Movement
- Friction and Air Resistance: Implemented these to fine-tune the feel of movement, making gameplay feel more grounded and realistic.
- Skidding and Acceleration: In line with other platformers, your player character now accelerates and decelerates at different rates, depending on whether they're on the ground or in the air. You don't reach your top speed instantly, instead you will quickly reach a decent, before the speed tapers off. Decelerating is a bit quicker, but still not instant. Quickly changing direction will produce a noticeable skid.
UI
- Pause Screen: Press 'start' on a gamepad, or ESC on a keyboard to pause the game and change the settings.
Audio
- Audio Mixer: Set up an audio mixer with controls for volume and echo effects, giving a more immersive and dynamic soundscape.
Controls
- More control schemes and better tutorials: The game will now differentiate between if you're using arrow keys, or WASD. The 'z' key can now be used to perform a jump
Visual
- Screen Shake: Added subtle screen shakes during key events for added impact. This can be turned off in the settings menu.
- Dust Particles
Pedantic
- Continues are now Game Overs: The game will track how many game overs you have occurred, until you start over from the beginning. As mentioned, you can now use the pause menu to start over.
